Yummix

Yummix had 170k Instagram followers but no native app.

Yummix is a French recipe platform for Thermomix owners, founded in 2013. It offers premium recipes, cooking tips, video tutorials, batch cooking plans and advanced search filters.

With more than 170,000 followers on Instagram, the Yummix community already lived on mobile. What it lacked was a native app, free from the limits of the website on a phone.

We worked with the Yummix team on the full UX/UI design of the mobile app (user experience and interface design), from the audit to the interactive prototype handed over to the developers.

Solving the Navigation Challenge

The Yummix team wanted the UX/UI design of their mobile app to feel as natural as having a chef by your side in the kitchen. Before drawing a single screen, we set a mobile-first foundation: the app is designed for the phone first, in the kitchen and on the go.

We started with an audit of the Yummix website: its content, its subscription model and how readers had used it for more than ten years. Every later decision builds on this analysis.

With the Yummix team, we then ran UX workshops to match business goals with real cooking habits on a phone. Together we defined the user journeys (the paths a user follows to reach a goal): finding a recipe, saving favourites, building a shopping list, subscribing. Settling these journeys before any development removed most of the delivery risk.

From these validated journeys, we drew high-fidelity wireframes (detailed screen layouts, without the final graphics), then the full interface. It relies on a design system built with the atomic design method: a library of reusable components, from buttons to complete screens, that keeps the app consistent as it grows.

An interactive prototype served as the single reference for every team. It made the handover smooth with Bear Studio, the mobile studio that developed the app in React Native (one code base for iOS and Android).

We also applied the WCAG guidelines (the international web accessibility standard) and designed secure sign-in and subscription journeys, consistent with the existing website and ready for future e-commerce and payment integrations.

The result: an app foundation validated before development, which avoided costly rework. The Yummix app is now rated 4.9/5 on the App Store and Google Play.

Why did Yummix need an app when it already had a website?

Its 170,000+ Instagram followers already lived on mobile, and the website showed its limits on a phone. A native app gives recipes, favourites and shopping lists a home designed for the kitchen and on the go.

How did Sutunam and Bear Studio share the work?

We designed the UX/UI with the Yummix team, from the audit to the prototype. Bear Studio developed the app in React Native. The interactive prototype was the single reference between the two teams.

How was the design validated before development?

Through UX workshops with the Yummix team, then design sprints that validated the full user journey in 10 days, before a single line of code.

How do subscriptions work between the website and the app?

We designed secure sign-in and subscription journeys connected to the existing website, so subscribers find the same access on both, ready for future payment integrations.

How is the Yummix app rated today?

4.9/5 on the App Store (275 ratings) and on Google Play (114 reviews), in October 2026.
