Bébé9

Powering Bébé9 store network with Magento
Guillaume, Project Manager

Imagine running an online store with zero central warehouse. That is the reality for Bébé9, a major French baby-care brand with over 100 stores nationwide. Every single online order is picked, packed, and shipped directly from local store shelves. When your inventory is scattered across a hundred locations, live stock tracking isn’t optional, it is the heart of the entire business. To keep up with demand without missing a beat, Bébé9 teamed up with Sutunam. The goal? Move their website off an aging setup and rebuild it on Magento 2 and Hyvä for lightning-fast performance, all while keeping the digital doors wide open for shoppers.

Solving the Real-Time Retail Challenge

Migrating a retailer with 100+ physical stores off a legacy Ruby platform is not just a re-platforming exercise, it’s a rebuild of the site’s entire performance profile while the business keeps trading. Every gap between the website and the store network carried a business risk: customers seeing the wrong stock, the wrong price, or a slow-loading page during high-traffic moments like Black Friday.

We started by mapping how product, price and stock data actually moved through Bébé9’s stores, then built a dedicated Sutunam ETL to carry that volume into Magento in near real time: product updates, pricing campaigns and media, all synced without manual intervention. That data backbone is what let the front end stay fast and accurate at the same time.

On the frontend, Hyvä Theme and Hyvä UI gave Bébé9 a lightweight, server-rendered storefront without the overhead of a traditional Magento theme stack, which mattered on a project where near-real-time price and stock updates were flowing through the storefront constantly. Hyvä Checkout carried that same performance discipline through the most conversion-sensitive step of the funnel, staying fast even as Bébé9 layered in multiple payment methods (card, Apple Pay, split payments, PayPal, gift cards, loyalty vouchers) and multiple delivery options.

Behind the storefront, API integrations connected Magento to Bébé9’s OMS, ERP and CRM, syncing orders, shipments, invoices, credit notes, cancellations, returns and refunds automatically. And a custom Page Builder gave Bébé9’s own team a widget-based system, sliders, banners, carousels, grids, to build and update content pages without developer involvement.

Sutunam won the project through a competitive tender and ran it as a semi-agile, milestone-based engagement: scoping workshops, a full specifications phase, an ergonomic UX/UI redesign ahead of each milestone, and roughly 60 ten-day development sprints, each with its own review and validation cycle, delivered on a fixed 12-month timeline.

In the first year after launch, Bébé9’s ecommerce revenue grew 34%, first-time purchasers rose 43%, and average purchase revenue per active user increased 77%.

Why migrate from Ruby to Magento 2?

Bébé9’s legacy Ruby platform could not keep pace with a 100-store network selling in real time. Magento 2 Open Source gave them a maintainable, scalable foundation with a mature ecosystem for payments, checkout and integrations, without the licence cost of a commerce platform.

How do you keep stock accurate across 100+ stores?

Bébé9 runs a ship-from-store model with no central warehouse, so stock lives across a hundred independent locations. We built a dedicated ETL that pushes product, price and stock updates from the store network into Magento in near real time, so the storefront reflects what is actually on the shelves.

What is Hyvä and why use it for a Magento migration?

Hyvä is a lightweight, server-rendered frontend for Magento that replaces the traditional Luma theme stack. It reduces page weight significantly, which matters most on mobile and on sites where price and stock data changes constantly. Hyvä Checkout applies the same approach to the checkout flow.

How long does a Magento 2 migration take?

The Bébé9 project ran on a fixed 12-month timeline, structured as scoping workshops, a full specifications phase, and roughly 60 ten-day development sprints, each with its own review and validation cycle.
