B2B, B2B2C or B2C: we master the entire technical chain. Multi-vendor architecture, split payment, KYC and regulatory compliance. Since 2010, with Symfony, Sylius and Magento.

Discuss your project

Building a marketplace is far more than installing a multi-vendor plugin. It is a project in its own right, with its own business rules, regulated financial flows, seller interfaces, commission logic and scalability demands. This is precisely what we have been doing for years, with real clients and real payment providers.

For over 15 years, Sutunam has designed and developed complex multi-vendor marketplaces. Our projects span the three main marketplace models, B2B, B2B2C and B2C, with real payment integrations on Stripe Connect, HiPay and PayPal. Our Open Source approach with Symfony, Sylius and Magento guarantees total flexibility and limitless scalability.

Models we cover

Three models, one shared expertise

Every marketplace model follows different business logic. Our experience spans all three.

B2C

Consumer marketplace

B2B

Business to business

Buyer-specific catalogues, account management, quotes, custom pricing terms, order approval workflows.

B2B2C

Hybrid model

Corporate clients and their own end users. Complex role management, multi-partner SSO, dedicated spaces per organisation.

The technical challenge few agencies have solved

One order, multiple sellers, multiple product types

On a multi-vendor marketplace with heterogeneous products, the basket is the easy part. The complexity is everything that happens behind it: packaging, logistics, timeframes and costs all calculated differently for each product type, within one single order.

Real example: Sevellia.com

Fresh + dry in a single basket

A single order can contain fresh products and dry goods, from different sellers, with completely different logistics. The buyer only ever sees one journey.

Basket contents
Fresh meat
Fresh product
+
Dried fruit
Dry product
+
Organic preserves
Dry product
=
1 single order
3 different sellers

Packaging driven by product type

Insulated box and cool pack for fresh items. Standard carton for dry goods. Costs calculated separately and aggregated into the total.

Heterogeneous delivery times

Fresh products require next-day delivery. Dry goods can ship within three days. The buyer sees a clear timeframe for each segment.

Different carriers per segment

Cold-chain certified carrier for fresh items, standard carrier for dry goods. Shipping calculated per seller and per type.

Unified buyer experience

One basket, one payment, one summary. All the back-end complexity is invisible to the buyer.

This challenge was solved on Sevellia.com, the organic marketplace acquired and operated by Sutunam. We did not theorise the solution: we built it, deployed it and ran it.

Payment integrations

Marketplace payment gateways

Payment is the beating heart of any marketplace. We have integrated three major gateways, with all the complexity that entails: connected accounts, regulated fund flows, split refund handling and compliant seller onboarding.

Stripe Connect
HiPay
PayPal

Each integration has its own quirks. Stripe Connect and PayPal give you worldwide coverage, while HiPay is a strong fit for European marketplaces with fine-grained wallet and KYC management. Stripe Connect also imposes its own account logic (Standard, Express, Custom). We have worked through these complexities on real projects, not in theory. On LS-occasions.fr we also connected financing directly to Crédit Agricole, with real-time simulation on the product page.

Technologies

Our technical stacks

We choose technology based on business needs, not the other way around. Symfony and Sylius for complex custom architectures, Magento 2 when catalogue richness is at the core of the project.

Symfony
Sylius
Magento 2
REST / GraphQL API
Elasticsearch
MySQL / PostgreSQL
Redis
Docker / CI-CD
Why Sylius?

Sylius is an Open Source e-commerce platform built on Symfony, designed for projects that demand deep customisation. It combines robust e-commerce features with a headless architecture and a native REST API. We built LS-occasions.fr, a car marketplace synchronising 50+ dealer inventories, entirely on Sylius and Symfony.

Headless architecture

Integration with mobile apps or modern front-end interfaces (React, Vue.js). Full decoupling between back-end and front-end.

Native features

Seller management, automated commissions, dashboard, ratings, disputes: everything is extensible without starting from scratch.

BDD and code quality

Behavior-Driven Development: every feature is specified in scenarios readable by everyone, turned into automated tests.

AI Studio

AI in the service of your marketplace

Beyond development, AI opens up new possibilities: rapid prototyping, product content automation, seller flow optimisation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does marketplace development cost?

A marketplace with the essential features typically starts from around €50,000. A complex platform with many integrations can reach several hundred thousand euros. We offer phased approaches to spread the investment and validate the business model before building the full feature set.

AI can also help reduce initial costs: a POC built with AI tools lets you validate business assumptions before committing a full budget. Coming soon

Symfony, Sylius or Magento: which technology should you choose?

Symfony is the right choice when business logic is complex and you want a fully custom architecture. Sylius, built on Symfony, is ideal when you want a robust, extensible e-commerce base with a native headless API. Magento is the natural fit when managing a rich product catalogue is central. We have delivered real projects with all three technologies.

Which payment gateways do you integrate for marketplaces?

Stripe Connect, HiPay and PayPal, integrated on real marketplace projects. Each solution has its own constraints: Stripe Connect imposes its connected-account logic (Standard, Express, Custom), HiPay requires fine-grained wallet and seller KYC management. We choose the gateway suited to your model and geographic zone together with you.

How do you handle an order with different product types (fresh, dry)?

We solved this on Sevellia.com: a single order can contain fresh products (insulated packaging, next-day delivery, cold-chain certified carrier) and dry goods (standard carton, three-day delivery). The logic for calculating shipping, timeframes and packaging is triggered by product type, aggregated into a coherent total and presented transparently to the buyer.

How does split payment work?

The buyer pays once, and funds are automatically redistributed to each seller, minus the platform's commissions. Split payment is governed by PSD2 regulation and requires a partnership with a licensed payment service provider.

What is KYC and why is it mandatory for sellers?

KYC (Know Your Customer) covers the identity checks required by anti-money-laundering regulation. On a marketplace, every seller who receives payments must be verified before they can collect funds. This involves collecting documents, validating them and managing onboarding statuses.

How long does it take to develop a marketplace?

A functional marketplace MVP generally takes between 4 and 9 months depending on complexity. We work in agile sprints with intermediate deliveries.

Want to validate your concept before committing? AI makes it possible to build a functional POC in a few weeks. Coming soon

How do you manage product listings from hundreds of different sellers?

We are working on approaches combining PIM and AI to automatically normalise catalogue imports, detect anomalies, enrich descriptions and maintain catalogue consistency at scale. Coming soon

Can you take over an existing marketplace project?

Yes. We carry out technical audits before taking on any project. We also acquired and operated Sevellia.com, which gives us an operator's perspective, not just a provider's.

Do you handle hosting and maintenance after launch?

Yes. Sutunam offers managed hosting, 24/7 monitoring, security updates, functional enhancements and technical support. A marketplace in production never sleeps.
